The Atacameña Women's Alliance (AMA) celebrates its third anniversary

- In a meaningful day, the first AMA committee was bid farewell, highlighting their valuable contributions, and a new generation of leaders was welcomed, with new projects for this new era. SQM Litio thus reaffirms its commitment to social and community development alongside Atacama women.
More than 250 people gathered to celebrate this anniversary with music, dance and recognition. Atacameña Women's Alliance (AMA), an initiative promoted by SQM Litio that strengthens leadership and the co-creation of dreams with women in the region. The Atacama women of San Pedro de Atacama reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the social fabric and building a shared future, highlighting the role of women in the community.
Closing of the first AMA committee cycle
Pamela Condori concluded her tenure on the AMA Founding Committee after three years of intense work, marked by significant challenges, in response to the pandemic that impacted the development of Atacama women.
"It was a time of reinvention. They listened to our needs, and AMA was born, promoting health and heritage projects," she recalled. The leader, from the Santiago de Río Grande community, highlighted the impact of initiatives such as the mobile telemedicine clinic and the healthcare provided by medical specialists during operations, the result of collaborative and consistent work.
As she said goodbye, she sent a heartfelt message to the new members: "I wish you blessings. May you raise your voices, listen, and work for all the women who still need it. I congratulate you for taking on this valuable commitment."
Welcome to AMA's new women leaders
Nancy Soza, a new member of the AMA advisory committee, along with six other women from various localities in the area, expressed her enthusiasm for joining this community effort.
“I feel very proud to have been invited to participate. My main mission will be to support women leaders, work with older adults and those most in need… We have received a lot of support, and as a woman from San Pedro de Atacama, I feel very fortunate to be part of AMA. Thanks to this partnership, today women can become entrepreneurs, access medical care, and have tools that improve our quality of life.”
Recognition from the mayor of San Pedro de Atacama
The mayor of San Pedro de Atacama, Justo Zuleta, highlighted the importance of the program, an initiative that has significantly impacted the community, especially in health care and prevention, and the social empowerment of women in Atacama La Grande.
"AMA has been a model of direct and committed work with Atacama women, addressing key areas such as health, education, and agriculture. This has significantly improved the quality of life for families in our community. I applaud SQM Litio's efforts and the active participation of young people, wishing them every success in this new period," he stated.
Collaboration between AMA and SQM Litio
Currently, AMA collaborates closely with SQM Litio to promote initiatives and activities aimed at local communities, with a strong emphasis on medical support and entrepreneurship development. It also works to strengthen public-private partnerships aimed at highlighting and promoting the role of women in society.
Support from the National Service for Women and Gender Equality
Gabriela Araya, Sernameg's regional director, commented: "As the National Service for Women and Gender Equality, we are very pleased to be part of this third anniversary of AMA, where we are also crowning the joint work resulting from a regional agreement. Thanks to this effort, we have trained agents of change: monitors in the prevention of gender violence. Today we certify them and, without a doubt, we will continue to strengthen this commitment to the women of San Pedro de Atacama."
