Initiative seeks to raise awareness of organ donation in Chile

SQM Lithium and the Let's Change History Foundation promote organ donation in Chile

Santiago, September 2025. – In Chile, more than 2.000 people are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant, while the country faces one of the lowest organ donation rates in Latin America. This reality constitutes an urgent health and social challenge, requiring greater visibility and public awareness.

SQM Lithium's alliance with the Let's Change History Foundation

In this context, SQM Lithium, in line with its social and community engagement initiatives, has established an alliance with the Let's Change History Foundation to promote the "Bike for Life" campaign, which not only seeks to spark conversation about organ donation, but also to mobilize society in support of a cause that can change the reality of thousands of families in the country.

Electric bicycles as a symbol of life

The project seeks to collect unused bicycles to convert them into electric bicycles, which will then be donated to the transplant recipients who participated in the initiative. This seeks to symbolize that, just as a bicycle can be restored and recovered, a person can live a full life again thanks to the gift of an organ donation.

"As a company, we are convinced that our role is not limited to the production of lithium for the energy transition, but also to contributing to positively transforming the lives of people and communities. With this partnership, we aim to open a space for reflection that encourages Chileans to take an active part in a cause that saves lives, through a clear message: just as a bicycle can have a second life, a human being can also receive a new opportunity through organ donation.", said María Ignacia López, Corporate Affairs Manager at SQM Litio.

How “Bike for Life” inspires organ donation in Chile

From the Let's Change History Foundation, its president, Álvaro Becerra, emphasized that this type of collaboration allows for innovation in the way we raise awareness among citizens.Collaborative and coordinated work can save lives, and in that sense, conversation and information—like what we've done through the provision of these capsules—are necessary so we can continue raising awareness about the importance of organ donation and transplantation, as we've been doing for a decade. We're grateful to SQM Litio and this opportunity, which allows us to expand our work and show, through real-life cases, that, thanks to deep solidarity during such a difficult time, another person has been given a chance at life.".
